How to wash your laundry when you have eczema?

Woman laundry

People who have a dry and sensitive skin should know that using detergent can worsen this situation: even after being washed, some residues can remain on your clothes.
Irritation, red patches, spots…we don’t want that! For that reason, Idemne tells you some advices to avoid risks of irritation which stem from this residues!

Our daily tips

Avoid using too much washing liquid/powder

Contrary to what you can read on the package of your washing liquid, 2 tablespoons of the product are enough. Your laundry won’t be less clean.

The plus? Reducing the amount of washing liquid will extend your washing machine lifetime. In fact, its pipes will have less risks to be blocked.

Favour a normal washing program

It is better to use a normal washing program instead of a short one. In this way, your laundry will be rinsed longer, with more water. Thus, it enables a good elimination of the washing liquid and obviously it reduces the risks of irritation.

Avoid the famous « softening agents »

Softening agents you can find in washing products enable to get a soft and perfumed laundry. However, they can cause irritation to people who have an atopic skin (Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a type of inflammation of the skin. It results in itchy, red, swollen, and cracked skin). But a quick-drying enables to get a soft laundry naturally!

Favour less perfumed washing liquids

Perfumed washing liquids are composed of allergenic substances and preservatives. That’s why we advise you to avoid products which are composed of “methylchloroisothiazolinone”, « methylisothiazolinone », and also of « benzisothiazolinone ». If you see one of this substances on the product label, take another one.

How can I identify a reaction to the MIT?

Eczema which is due to methylisothiazolinone (MIT) causes red patches and skin irritation. In a more advanced stage, you can also feel burning sensations and get blisters.

Wash a smaller amount of laundry

This simple action makes the rinse easier and so, the elimination of the washing liquid.

During the pollination period, avoid washing your laundry outside

It’s spring now, pollen is everywhere – for that reason, we advise you to avoid drying your laundry outside.
